Shaktipeeth in India is dedicated to the goddess Shakti, also known as Sati. It is frequently described as a holy site with a reason for existing. Shakti Peeth is revered as an important shrine or site of pilgrimage in Hindu mythology. These are thought to be the locations where Devi Sati’s jewelry or bits of her jewelry are thought to have fallen to the ground.

There are 51 ShaktiPeethas in India, of which 18 are Maha Shakti Peethas, according to various reports. They can be found all over the Indian subcontinent. Shaktipeeth in India: Story

Lord Shiva was the husband of Durga and Devi Durga took birth as Sati in the house of Prajapati Daksha. And when Sati and Mahadev were married, Prajapati Daksha performed the Yagya.In this Yagya, all the devtas, seven sages, and the entire people (called Praja) were invited to this Yagya. All were invited by King Daksha except his daughter Devi Sati and her husband Mahadev.But when Goddess Sati came to know that her father Prajapati Daksha is performing a great Yagya, Mata Sati had a strong desire to go there. And Devi Sati requested Lord Shiva to accompany her to the place of Yagya. Lord Shiva said to Devi Sati that if we are not invited then we should not go.But Mata Sati did not listen to Mahadev and went to the place of Yagya. But King Daksha welcomed everyone except Sati. When Sati asked Father Daksha why they did not invite Shiva to the Yagya place, Prajapati Daksha insulted Mahadev.

Mother Sati was greatly offended by this insult, so Devi Sati decided to consume her in the fire during the Yagya. And she gave up her body into the Yagya.

When Lord Shiva realized this, his third eye opened in anger and start a destructive dance (tandava). When Mahadev went to the place of Yagya, Sati was dead.

Then he gently took the dead body of his beloved wife in his arms. But the rebirth of Goddess Sati was important to save the universe. For that, lord Vishnu cut Sati’s lifeless body into 51 pieces using Sudarshan Chakra. These pieces spread on the ground and these pieces came to be known as Shakti Peetha.
